Ilene Swartz is the 2014 Soroptimist of Coronado Legend who will be honored at the 11th Annual Luncheon & Auction at the Coronado Marriott Resort on April 12th. When Ilene was told of her selection as this year’s Legend, she accepted the honor with her characteristic humility and graciousness. Ever since Ilene moved to San Diego, in 1952, her name has been linked with public service. As the mother of two daughters, Ilene’s focus and sensitivity echoed the Soroptimist’s commitment to “building bridges of opportunity for women and girls.” At an early age, she introduced daughters, Anne and Amy, to the importance of charitable endeavors when the three of them joined the National Charity League, a mother-daughter philanthropic organization committed to community service. Her devotion to both local and national charities and hands-on involvement has been punctuated by sustained generosity. Ilene graciously says, “Yes”, to almost any request for assistance, and always does more than her share.
