Natalia Islas, a single mother of an eight-year-old son, was kidnaped and trafficked in Sinaloa, Mexico for seven years before she returned to the US. This experience left her emotionally, mentally, and physically drained and in a state of near-complete hopelessness. She regained strength and purpose upon the birth of her son. At this positive point in her life, Natalia is very grateful for the opportunities she has received. She has maintained an honors GPA at Southwestern College where she will soon graduate with an associate degree in business; she plans to transfer to San Diego State University to continue her education.
