Cathy has been a very engaged Soroptimist of Coronado member since January 2010. Outside of her professional career as a nurse, she has dedicated the past 12 years of her life to SIC and continues to be one of our most dependable, and respected volunteers. She resides in Coronado with her husband Larry, and their dog.

Cathy’s background surrounds emergency nursing, military nursing, and a large dose of nursing education and community service. She enjoys volunteering as a member of the Soroptimist International of Coronado.

She is willing to help with a variety of tasks.

Cathy began as a SIC volunteer in 2010 and was quickly identified by a beloved SIC Member as someone who would lead the Scholarship Committee, where she has served as Scholarship Committee Chair for several years. In addition to this role, SIC recognizes Cathy’s commitment and dedication to the community at large.

Fellow SIC and community members have seen the effect of her participation. Cathy served at Coronado’s vaccine clinic, not only helping SIC members and their loved ones through the pandemic but was seen as the liaison between Coronado’s hospital and SIC for helping members sign up to volunteer at the clinic.

She has opened her home for scholarship meetings and coordinates Scholarship Award readings and presentations for Live Your Dream Winners.

In addition, Cathy gives generously in support of SIC’s fundraising campaigns. She shows up to represent SIC at the 4th of July Parades by decorating floats and riding in the parades.

For leisure, Cathy and friends “Porch Ladies” enjoyed making face masks during the height of the Pandemic.

The Porch Ladies sit and sew masks every Saturday. They donate them for free and have made over 1000 in the past five months.

Cathy is well known in the nursing community for her strong advocacy for nursing education, and patient advocacy as well as for enhancing growth and development opportunities for nurses at all levels. It is very fitting to recognize Cathy as SOY, considering all that she has done for SIC and the community at large, especially during Covid-19 at Coronado’s community vaccine clinic.  Several SIC members rallied behind Cathy to sign up to help at the clinic with their gifts of time.

Cathy is humble. I did a little digging and was not surprised to learn that she has been recognized for many accomplishments throughout her lifetime, including being honored as a Coronado Soroptimist International legend in 2017. She was truly honored.
