Deborah Bon is the first of her family to complete high school and to attend college. She is currently studying accounting at Southwestern College and is preparing to transfer to SDSU for a baccalaureate in accounting. She was raised by a single mother who worked as a farm worker in central California. Deborah’s life was challenging as she grew up in an environment of crime, gang violence, drugs and sexual violence. Unfortunately, she ended up in an abusive marriage and encountered many challenges as she had her three children. Her life turned around in early 2013 when she started her college career. Her life is now full of happiness, her children, her studies and her goals. She is interested in natural home remedies, cooking and sharing her wisdom and experiences with her peers. One of her dreams is to someday visit another country to aid the homeless, to bring joy to a child’s face and peace to a mother’s heart.
