We call her St. Joan. Our Silent Auction chair for several years dubbed Joan Elam “patron saint of the silent Auctions.” No one can say “no” to her when she asks. Joan has a long list of businesses that she visits every year that contributes countless auction items, gift certificates, and services. Joan is responsible for our coveted pink bike that has been regularly offered at the auction. Her due diligence is a major commitment and contribution to our fundraising and ability to continue “Building Bridges of Opportunity for Women and Girls”.

Joan has been a member of SI Coronado since 2006. A retired school principal from Los Angeles, Joan joined our club after moving to Coronado. Joan’s interest has always been in the service and the support of others, so the Soroptimist mission of “improving the lives of women and girls” was a fit. Joan’s words of wisdom and humor that have become customary every week at our meetings are inspirational.
