Marian Poynter has been a treasured member of Soroptimist since 1975. Her slogan, “No rank, no rate, but I still participate” has been true for the entire 31 years!
She had a long career as the manager, buyer, and designer for Martin’s Home Furnishings, a local furniture store, and still found time to be a volunteer.
In her early years with SIC Marian took on many roles, always the first to help where needed including heading up our See’s candy sales and Football Pool tickets.
She and her husband, “Red”, would make weekly trips to the See’s Candy store and load their car with hundreds of pounds of chocolate that our customers ordered. Making room on their floor in the living room, piles of chocolate would sit until Soroptimist members could pick up their order, such a sight to see.
For many years, she and Red would host the Soroptimist end-of-the-year party, usually a luau or a costume party, always a fun time.
Years ago Marian decided that all of her wrinkles would be “smile wrinkles,” so every time she flashes a smile she quietly says to herself “pass it on,” as people smile back in return.
Marian says that her Soroptimist “Sisters” have been wonderful companions and compassionate friends through her life’s journey. Her wall of family photos tells the story. When sad days come around she looks at all the photos and remembers the good times! She is happy, content, and positive, and hopes to pass it on with a smile. Congratulations Marian, well-deserved recognition to our very active Life Member.
